Andy first rose to prominence in 1992, captaining England Schools U18 to their first Grand Slam victory in 11 years. He made his full England debut in 1996 against Italy and went on to play in the 1997 Five Nations, as well as touring Argentina with the national squad. A key player at club level, he won the 1999 Powergen Cup with Wasps before moving to Bedford as captain, later joining Gloucester Rugby, where he claimed another Powergen Cup title in 2003.

After a 27-month absence from international rugby, Andy made a triumphant return in 2002, securing his place in England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup squad. He played a vital role in England’s historic tournament win, notably scoring two tries against Uruguay. He continued his international career, serving as England vice-captain in 2003 and featuring prominently in the 2004 Autumn Internationals.

Andy’s career culminated in a memorable 2007 Rugby World Cup, where his crucial kick set up Josh Lewsey’s decisive try, helping England reach the final. Today, he is a highly sought-after rugby speaker, sharing insights on teamwork, leadership, and performing under pressure.
