More about
Graham Rowntree
He made his England debut in 1995 as a replacement for Jason Leonard in a match against Scotland. This was followed by selection for the 1997 Lions tour to South Africa, where Graham made an impact as part of the midweek side, though he did not earn a Test cap. He was again selected for England in the 1999 Rugby World Cup and was part of the Six Nations Grand Slam-winning team in 2003. Unfortunately, he missed out on the squad that went on to win the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
In 2004, Graham returned to the international scene and, in 2005, finally earned his Lions Test cap during the tour to New Zealand. At club level, he enjoyed a stellar career with Leicester Tigers, racking up 398 appearances between 1990 and 2007. He won two Heineken Cups, four Premiership titles, two Pilkington Cups, and a Courage league crown.
After retiring from playing in 2007, Graham transitioned to coaching, quickly rising through the ranks to become an assistant coach with England Rugby and a key figure in the Lions’ 2009 coaching team for their tour of South Africa.
