Gregor Townsend made his international debut for Scotland in 1993 during the Five Nations Championship against England. Known for his mercurial talent at fly-half, Gregor went on to earn a remarkable 82 caps for Scotland, establishing himself as one of the country’s leading players over his career.

Gregor’s club career began with Gala RFC, before joining Northampton Saints in 1995. It was with Northampton that he earned a spot on the 1997 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa, where he played as fly-half and secured Test caps. In 1998, Gregor made the move to Brive, before joining Castres the following year. He was part of the Scotland team that won the 1999 Five Nations Championship, cementing his status in Scottish rugby.

In 2002, Gregor returned to Scotland to play for the Border Reivers, before taking his talents to South Africa, where he played for the Natal Sharks in the 2004 Super 12. His rugby journey also included time at Montpellier in France and ended with a return to the Borders in 2006.

Post-retirement, Gregor has enjoyed a successful coaching career with Borders, Edinburgh, and Scotland A. In 2009, he was appointed as Scotland’s backs coach for the Six Nations Championship, sharing his wealth of experience with the next generation of Scottish rugby talent.
