More about

Jeff Probyn

While not included in the 1993 British Lions squad for the tour of New Zealand, Jeff toured South Africa in 1989 with a World XV and was an integral member of the Wasps FC team that won the English Courage League in 1990.

Jeff’s international career spanned from 1988 to 1993, earning him 37 caps for England and scoring 3 tries. He was part of the iconic England team alongside players like Stuart Barnes, Wade Dooley, and Mike Teague, playing his final match in a 17-3 defeat to Ireland at Lansdowne Road in 1993.

Notably, Jeff’s unusual physique set him apart from modern props. His sloped shoulders and wide hips contributed to his effectiveness in the scrum.

Following his playing career, Jeff was involved with Club England and the Rugby Football Union Committee. He has also been a vocal critic of cross-code transfers, such as Andy Farrell’s move to rugby league. As an Honorary President of Wooden Spoon, the rugby charity, and a regular contributor on talkSPORT, Jeff shares his wealth of rugby expertise on The Sunday Session and The Rugby Show.
