One of John’s career highlights came in the 1990 Lancashire Cup final, where he played as an interchange/substitute in Widnes’ 24-18 victory over Salford. He then starred as right-wing in Widnes’ 24-0 triumph over Leeds in the 1991–92 Regal Trophy final.
