Scott Quinnell, the former Llanelli Scarlets number eight, is renowned for his impressive rugby career, having represented both Wales and the British & Irish Lions at the highest level. Born into rugby royalty as the son of Derek Quinnell, a star of the sport in the 1960s, Scott naturally followed in his father’s footsteps.

Scott’s journey began in 1990 when he joined Llanelli RFC at the age of 18. Over the next four years, he made 146 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 32 tries. In 1994, Scott made a bold move to rugby league, signing for Wigan in a record £400,000 transfer. He was capped for Wales in rugby league before returning to rugby union in 1997 with Richmond, and subsequently making a triumphant return to Llanelli in 1998 after Richmond’s closure.

Scott made his Wales debut in 1993 against Canada and went on to win 52 caps for his country, scoring 11 tries and captaining Wales on seven occasions. He also toured with the British & Irish Lions in 1997 to South Africa and 2001 to Australia, earning three caps and scoring one try.

In November 2004, aged 32, Scott retired from professional rugby but continued to contribute to the sport as a coach at Stradey Park. His legacy in both rugby union and rugby league remains a source of pride in Welsh rugby history.
