More about

Terry O’Connor

Despite offers from top clubs like Wigan, St Helens, Warrington, Leeds, and Bradford, Terry chose Salford as his childhood hero Steve O’Neill was part of the coaching team. He was named Salford’s Young Player of the Year in 1991 and delivered an outstanding performance in the Regal Trophy quarter-final against Wigan, earning Man of the Match.

In 1994, Terry made a £95,000 transfer to Wigan, where he went on to win numerous honours, including the Challenge Cup, Charity Shield, and Premiership Stones Bitter Championship. He played a staggering 317 first-grade games for Wigan, becoming a key figure in the pack for over a decade. His dedication was recognised with a testimonial in 2004, where he generously donated part of the proceeds to send underprivileged children to Euro Disney.

After joining Widnes in 2004, Terry captained the team in 2005 and retired in 2006 after a final season in the National League, having played his last game in the Grand Final.

A Great Britain international with 15 caps, Terry also represented Ireland at the 2000 Rugby League World Cup and captained them on numerous occasions.

Since retirement, Terry has taken on the role of Sporting Director at Widnes Vikings and serves as a Sky Sports pundit, offering expert analysis and light-hearted features with friend Barrie McDermott.
