In 2000 Barrie appeared for Ireland in the World Cup, winning the man of the match in the opening game against Samoa.

Barrie’s remarkable career with Leeds Rhinos has been a testament to resilience, overcoming adversity time and time again. In 1997, he suffered a devastating injury against Halifax, ending his season. However, his perseverance paid off, and in 1999, he played a key role in Leeds’ victory in the Silk Cut Challenge Cup Final, scoring a crucial try.

In 2001, Barrie was named Rhinos Player of the Year after leading his team through a challenging season. His leadership continued in 2003, when he played in his third Challenge Cup Final in Cardiff, and in 2004, he was part of the team that secured a Grand Final win against Bradford Bulls at Old Trafford. This victory made Barrie only the 22nd player in the club’s 109-year history to win both a Challenge Cup and Championship Final.

One of his career highlights came in 2000, when he represented Ireland in the World Cup, winning Man of the Match in the opening game against Samoa and captaining his country against France in 2001.

Since retiring from first-team rugby, Barrie has forged a successful career in the media, working with BBC TV and Sky TV, alongside his friend Terry O’Connor.
