A key figure in Welsh rugby, Steve earned 30 caps for the Wales national team, amassing an impressive 152 points. His exceptional talent also earned him a place on the prestigious British & Irish Lions tour of 1977, where he played in all four Test matches against New Zealand.

At club level, Steve showcased his skills playing for Bridgend RFC, Beddau RFC, Barbarian FC, and Taffs Well. Notably, he secured all his international caps while representing Bridgend RFC. His debut for Wales was nothing short of spectacular—scoring within just five minutes against France.

Demonstrating his leadership qualities, Steve captained Wales in their Centenary match against the All Blacks in 1980 and was also selected for a World XV squad, competing against Argentina in Buenos Aires.

In 1981, Steve transitioned to Rugby League, where he continued to represent Wales at the national level and played for the Cardiff City Blue Dragons.
